There are many symptoms that accompany someone who suffers from DID such as depression, mood swings, and suicidal tendencies. There are many arguments on the legitimacy of DID. Statistics show the rate of dissociative identity disorder is. DID was previously known as multiple personality disorder until 1994 (2) and is thought to be an effect of severe trauma during early childhood, such as extreme physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. The person also experiences memory loss that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness" (1). "Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities, or personality states, are present in-and alternately take control of-an individual.
